@natedaniels_1: This should be athletes goal, that doesn’t mean everyone is ready to achieve it but that does not negate that it should be what you’re shooting for 💪🏽 #highschoolsports #athlete #sportsparents #sportsperformance
They should be, but they also shouldn’t play varsity as a freshman

My son would have been starting on varsity as quarter back his freshmen year, but we talked and he stayed on jv! coaches seemed to appreciate our decision!

What’s crazy is that my son skill wise has been ready for varsity. He’s in the ninth grade, but his height and weight hasn’t caught up with his skills yet so…. We be patient…. We wait…. And we keep working, but yes, the goal has always been varsity for my son.

Be the Star JV player and a bench player on Varsity as a freshman should be the goal. Maximize your PT.

My daughter was a freshman last year.. and it got back to me that the coaches wanted her humbled. So that’s exactly what they did. She was on all C teams except for cross country and track because times don’t lie.. she put in the work, she did her time, she stayed positive. Parents from other teams complained about having to compete against her because she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. She would run the scores up by 50 points in basketball, in volleyball she would have 10 back to back serves. She stayed hype, I asked if she wanted to move schools. She’s loyal to a fault and stuck through it. This year as a sophomore she’s starting varsity on all her sports. So to all the parents out there freshman year can be tough. Especially if you know how good your kid is.. they just have to stay positive and team focused. There’s a lesson in there somewhere

You should be mentally READY. What he’s saying if you don’t know your game in and out, you’re at a huge disadvantage. Puberty ain’t gonna save you, it’s not some drug, and everyone gets it.

This is not just sports advice, it’s life advice. Like that quote, “luck” is when preparedness meets opportunity.

My son’s school does not have a baseball JV team. Last year he made Varsity as a Freshman. He was playing with and against 18-19 year olds. He was out for a couple of weeks due to two different injuries. (Sprain knee, concussion) It was tough! but he worked himself up to a leadoff hitter.

hey man my son is freshman and he may get to be on the varsity but i don’t think he would get a lot of playing time. Is not good to say no to varsity because of playing time right? as of playing on JV and getting more playing time m?

This is a tough one in my opinion. They wanted my son on varsity as a freshman. At 14, he did not feel prepared and quite honestly, I don’t think he wanted to miss his last year with his teammates. I think part of him regrets it but he had time to grow physically, mature, and prepare more for the next level. I do believe he will be brought up for playoffs.

Do one on college. I think a kid should go to where they can play others say if a kid walks in and starts as a freshman he should have went up a level. I think playing is the best experience myself

My husband wouldn’t let me OT start as freshman because of being lined up against 17 & 18 year olds: he was 6’3” but not filled out like a junior and senior

they had him playing jv and varsity special team. They say he needs to be bigger but sometimes that is not the issue just need the opportunity
