@henryfudgeofficial: Britain is now the first big economy since the euro crisis to pay 6% to borrow. We pay more than America. America. Part of that is a term premium: the extra we pay because Britain lost its natural domestic buyer of long-dated debt, and the pension system is a big reason why. So here's a proposal. Make the full pension tax shield conditional on an age-scaled gilt allocation. No QE, no mandate, no cliff edge. Then I walk through what it does to the Treasury, mortgages, business investment, the Bank of England's QE losses, sterling, energy, All figures marked illustrative are scenarios, not forecasts. Pull them apart in the comments. Operation Grey Twist. Weaponise the pensioners. #economics #ukeconomy #bondmarket #ukpolitics #interestrates

excellent work, problem being, since the 80's most "money men" are just into stealing, rather than caring about the economy

Can you please do a video on pension investments, I realised today that only 4% of UK pensions fund are invested in UK companies. Absurd compared to rates of other countries and their pension funds. Apologies if you’ve done so already

George Osborne also removed the requirement for personal pension holders to buy annuities. Annuity providers are also buyers of gilts.

They need to make gilt coupons tax free. Its utterly ridiculous that capital gains isnt but coupon is. Pushed everyone into the gilts with arbitrarily low coupons

you can use the same criteria and fund the health services department, offloading some of the funding cost to non-profit insurers, which take salary contribution , buy gilts and fund , nhs, which would make debt/gdp shrink quite quickly
