It’s giving “sorry for the slavery” while acting holding enslaved people hostage. Diabolical.

in a different state, there is some encouragement as a state agency to prioritize contracts that use prison labor. which ugh

This is so disturbing and has inspired me to look into my own state for how it’s still using prison labor because I have no doubt it is. Thank you for always bringing attention to this very important issue!

I mean, we all know that the prison system is just an extension of slavery. I appreciate your work.

I used to work for a commissary company and the price of a box of tampons or pads was infuriating. Those are needs not wants.

This is super interesting and as a non-American I knew there was a lot of very low paid prison labour in prisons like making license plates (is that a thing I feel like I read this somewhere) but not literally in the Governor’s mansion! Also have you read Chain Gang All Stars - thought it was a powerful take on the current US prison system and where it could end up!

This is infuriating. Not shocking, but absolutely enraging. Imagine being one of those prison laborers that has to walk by that sign to go do their work inside. I am so sickened. This is so sick.

Yeah. I was so happy to get my name plate at work (in a different state) but I didn’t know that they were prisoner made at the time. I used to have arguments with my coworkers that at the very least, prison jobs need to be minimum wage. We don’t necessarily need them to be able to keep it all but that way they can pay for basics, pay off court costs, be able to pay something if they have child support obligations, and even get a small savings for release to help them keep afloat.

A lot of food production companies also use cheap prison labor. Our country is still very much dependent on slave labor. It’s just hidden from view a lot better now.

we don't have offical residence for our provincial leaders ( equal to your governor) here in Canada. I find the concept odd.
