There is a set of patterns without fail. An instant vibe and most cluttered homes have these following things in common.. 1. So many unused bins and baskets. This usually tells me someone really wanted to get organized and tried hard, but somewhere along the way the containers themselves became part of the clutter. 2. Every surface is working overtime. Tables, countertops, and nightstands are covered in piles of random stuff and papers. Nothing gets to breathe, and honestly, neither does the brain. 3. Multiple versions of the same item everywhere. Four ice cream scoopers, ten trays in different sizes, more water bottles than anyone could ever use, and so many blankets. 4. Items are nowhere where they belong. A blow dryer on the floor, shoes in the living room, jackets on the ground. Things are constantly being set down instead of put away. 5. She is always cleaning, tidying, and apologizing for the mess. She’s genuinely exhausted and overwhelmed because nothing has a real home, so the work never ends. The biggest truth I see over and over is this: it’s not a lack of effort. I know exactly what it feels like to have a home that’s overwhelming and draining every ounce of energy. That was me ten years ago! Things changed when I was forced to move into a much smaller home. It was hard. I ruthlessly decluttered, assigned homes for every item, changed my shopping habits, tweaked my routines, and started living a more intentional life. No, I’m not a minimalist or a perfectionist. And I came up with simple systems I share here. #decluttering
