@theventure: Kirk Kerkorian named his charity after his daughters. He called it the Lincy Foundation, after Linda and Tracy, and it gave away more than $1 billion. He never allowed anything to be named after himself. A large share of it went to Armenia. Kerkorian was the son of Armenian immigrants, and after the 1988 earthquake there he spent the next decade paying for more than $200 million of rebuilding, including $60 million for schools and streets. The foundation closed in 2011, after 22 years, and handed its last $200 million to UCLA for medical research and scholarships. He lived the same way. The man who built the biggest hotel in the world three times drove a Ford Taurus and a Jeep, and almost never gave an interview. Follow @theventure for the greatest founder stories ever told!
