The present but distant father is one that is hard to deal with. They will have resentment toward their father but will not let him know. In return they take it out on the women in their lives, especially their mother. Blame their mothers for choosing their father even if he pursued her as one person and became another later in the relationship.

Childhood trauma is so real. Its birthed a lot of avoidant people. People who grew up in survival mode. They never matured emotionally, they're defensive & argumentative & a lot are just walking around lost. I 100% agree. Yet I understand & I love my black man. As long as he stays in counseling 😅

Men in general can attach themselves to surface level idealizations, but when you add the effects of oppression, I think it becomes even more layered for Black men. Many are choosing not to do the internal work required to move beyond the surface and sustain emotionally healthy relationships. And it becomes even harder to unpack when life changing decisions are made before that internal breakthrough happens. By the time the awareness comes, there may already be relationships, children, commitments, and consequences attached to choices made by a version of themselves they hadn’t fully examined yet.

This whole conversation reminds me of the song teachme by musiq. It seems like alot of men don’t know how to love women but unlike the song they move horribly instead of actually trying to improve and that makes such a big difference. The men that are aware that they need improvement move way different from the ones who think there is nothing wrong despite their shortcomings

Men don’t change ladies. But we can work on our boys so our girls won’t have to go through what we did. I’m raising an emotionally intelligent son. When I was younger my mother told me “ the most important decision you’ll ever make for your children is who their father is. I really took that to heart and chose to wait to ensure I picked the right father for my son. We can’t keep trying to fix these broken men.

I disagree. I don't think black men are hard to love. I think black men need to learn to love themselves, and if they can do that, then they would be no more harder to love than any person or human being.

I agree with your points. Add sports and video games as avoidance and compulsive engagement as mechanisms. These activities make it difficult for men to peaceful engage with their partner and resolve disputes.
