When all hope seemed lost, Spider-Man lay beaten and exhausted beneath the ruins of New York, barely able to move as the X-Men slowly approached. Then, through the silence, Peter heard a familiar voice. His uncle. “With great power comes great responsibility… so get up and show ’em hell, Spidey.” Peter slowly lifted his head. His hands began to shake as he forced himself back onto his feet. Then the scene cuts to J. Jonah Jameson, watching the destruction unfold on live television. For once, he wasn’t screaming about Spider-Man being a menace. He stood up and shouted, “You’re a menace, a vigilante, a GODDAMN CRIMINAL! But the one thing you aren’t is a QUITTER! So GET UP, SPIDER-MAN! THE CITY NEEDS YOU!” Peter suddenly feels something crawling across his body—the Venom symbiote. It consumes him, transforming his suit into black. His strength explodes beyond anything the X-Men expected, and for a moment, Spider-Man becomes nearly unstoppable. He tears through the battlefield, overpowering the X-Men one after another. For a brief moment, it seems like Peter is actually going to win. But the X-Men rise again. Their powers return, their injuries regenerate, and they overwhelm him once more. Peter fights with everything he has left, but eventually collapses to his knees. The symbiote begins peeling away from his body, weakened beyond recovery. Peter reaches toward it as it slowly goes still. The Venom symbiote is dead. Peter stares at it for a moment, realizing that even with all that power, he still couldn’t save his world alone. Then—a portal opens. Out steps Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O’Hara. He looks directly at Peter and says, “Tobey… great work. This is not a canon event. PROTECT THE SPIDER.” Suddenly, another portal opens. Then another. And another. Hundreds of portals rip across the sky as Spider-Men from countless universes swing through—Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man India, and countless others. Peter looks around in disbelief as an army of Spider-Men stands behind him. Miguel steps forward. “You’re not fighting alone.” Peter slowly rises, looks toward the X-Men, and clenches his fists. The Spider-Men charge…
