@olaf.franz.vocals: “Breath support” does not describe a specific physiological function of the voice. Actively holding the ribs open, trying to keep the diaphragm low, tilting the pelvis, adding twang, or lifting the soft palate activates unnecessary muscular actions that are very likely to result in excessive muscular tension later on. But here is the more important point: The different sound is not created by me deliberately doing different muscular things. I am simply changing the pressure pattern. The body responds differently to positive-pressure and negative-pressure function — and that response changes the sound. So instead of trying to control every muscle involved in singing, start by understanding the conditions to which the vocal system responds. Singing should not depend on a large amount of deliberate muscular effort. The foundation of vocal control begins much earlier: with the direction of pressure within the system. Learning to distinguish between positive-pressure function and negative-pressure function is one of the absolute basics of vocal coordination — and you can hear the difference with something as simple as “hm,” a short “i,” and a long “i.” #vocalcoach #stimmbildung #singenlernen
