Travelling from Isiolo to Kom in those days was not just a trip; it was an experience. The old vehicle in the picture carried passengers, luggage, stories and dreams along the dusty northern roads. I still remember the feeling of setting off early, watching the landscape slowly change as we left Isiolo behind. The road was rough, the journey was long, and every stop along the way became an opportunity to meet someone you knew; or make a new acquaintance. Then came Kom. It was more than just a stopover. For many travellers heading towards Wajir, Kom was one of those places where journeys paused briefly before continuing deeper into the North. There were jerrycans, sacks, luggage tied onto the vehicle, passengers squeezed together, children sitting beside their parents, and the ever-present sound of the old engine struggling through the road. 😄 From Kom, the journey to Wajir continued. The further we travelled, the more familiar the sights became ;the dry bush, camels along the road, scattered settlements and that unmistakable northern landscape. And when Wajir finally appeared, there was a special feeling: home. Today, we have smooth highways, modern buses, comfortable cars and faster journeys. But somehow, those difficult journeys of the 1990s remain among the memories we treasure most. 1996 was a different era. Different roads. Different vehicles. Different people. But unforgettable memories. ❤️ If you travelled from Isiolo → Kom → Wajir in the 1990s, what do you remember most?
