I don’t think it’s easier to understand either 😭 they’re both very complex characters. That’s what makes them so special. Neither are good or bad. They always doing something that could be right or wrong. Most of the time selfish decisions for themselves (including bringing each other back from the dead or dragging each other back into the life)

I never hated either of them early seasons. They were two boys, sweet, kind hearted boys who had to grow into men too early, who saved lives and could never have a lover because of their own life style. Were always worried they’d lose each other, were constantly afraid and on the run, even if they didn’t admit it. However in the later seasons I get upset with both of them equally sometimes, the writers just… didn’t write them the same way anymore. A lot of the time it felt like they weren’t the right characters anymore. And absolutely people can change after yknow, dying a shit ton, torture, trauma. Though I do think they just weren’t properly written anymore, and that’s okay, the writers don’t have to be perfect it’s just sad.
