Agree with all of this!! As a clothing designer I can attest that sizing is a suggestion and if you’re always trying to buy the smallest size, you can loose out on style.

I think the stretch thing is not always true for rigid denim. If there’s too much space when you first put them on, they’ll be too baggy after a wear or two.
