@modernmomuniversity: The vagus nerve is your body's brake pedal for stress, and one of the only places it reaches the skin is the ear 👂 What I do at home as a mom: gentle squeezes from the top of the ear down to the lobe, two slow pulls on the lobe, then repeat. Slow and gentle, and always let your child opt out 🤍 Save this for the next meltdown. My Sensory Seeker Survival Toolkit is linked in my bio 💛 Follow @modernmomuniversity for more nervous system tools for moms and kids. #vagusnerve #sensoryseeker #meltdownhelp #nervoussystemregulation #adhdkids
Isn't that interesting since most kids when little will pull or rub their ears when tired or dysregulated and need comfort or self soothing. God amazes me that babies, toddlers just instinctively do this, no coincidence God's in the details

Gentle rubs work better 😁like a toddler holder there and sucking their thumb it’s suppose to be soothing. How do I know? Been a self soother my whole life.

this is sometimes why babies play with their ears when they're drinking a bottle or fall asleep

I think it’s one of those things someone has to do for you. It does nothing for me when i do it myself. 😢

I have self soothed by playing with my ears since I was a small child so much so that I have no cartilage in my ears I can fold them completely within themselves. How did I not know this. Makes so much sense now

This is probably why my aunt used to always rub my ear lobes my situation back then was very unpleasant and I think she could feel it even when I was incredibly at hiding it😅 love my aunt!

I swearrrrrrr by the ears for snooze time. my older son is stubborn and won't let me do it cause it will *literally* put him to sleep, and my younger son will put my hand to his ear to do this 😂 seriously.. it is wild.

My cousin was a baby he used to pull on his ears. They never said why but I wonder if it was a way to self sooth.

This is why I was so comforted & soothed when my mom would stroke the outside of my ear when I was a child. It all makes sense now.

My daughter has fallen asleep this way her entire toddlerhood, she falls asleep with one hand holding her own ear and the other hand holding mine. No wonder when I’m anxious I feel more rested laying next to her. She’s calming herself and me down too 😭

Is this why my son‘s ear is always red? Does that mean he is dysregulated ?
