@ijawse: Nigerian Independence Day has been and probably will continue to be a sensitive subject, especially for us Ijaw people. Nonetheless, we want to use this day to let Nigeria and the world know we the Ijaw people are here. On this day remember: the Niger Delta is not just an empty land filled with oil, mangroves, swamps and coast lines. The land is filled with numerous cultures and people, such as us, the Ijaw. We continue to be impacted by oil pollution, neglect from our government, and attempted ethnic erasure from propagandists. Nonetheless we the Ijaw will continue to survive and speak our truth, as Ijo/Izon means “truth”. #ijaw #nigerianindependenceday #ijawculture #proudlyijaw #nigeriantiktok
