@qaherroman: 👣 The Secret of the Left Foot and the Cup Mark! The position of the cup mark determines the direction 👇 In the field, this is not simply a random mark, but a combined symbol: the foot indicates the direction, while the cup mark is interpreted as the key to the distance and point of reference. The real secret lies in the cup mark’s position: 🔹 At the toes: A clear indication to move forward without deviation. 🔹 At the heel: A real deception—the target direction is interpreted as going backward. 🔹 Beside the foot: The toe direction is disregarded, and the route is interpreted as leading directly toward the cup mark. 🔹 Inside the footprint: Distance is no longer considered; in this interpretation, it indicates a fixed point directly beneath the location. 🔹 Two or more cup marks: The larger and deeper cup mark is treated as the main reference. 🔹 Cup mark connected to a channel: The channel is interpreted as the path leading toward the entrance or rock-cut chamber. 🎯 The key to interpretation: the clarity of the toe, carving depth, and exact position of the cup mark are the details examined before determining any direction. Roman, Byzantine, and Nabataean sites contain many different forms of carved marks, but the symbol alone does not prove the presence of a burial or hidden target. 👁️ 💬 Field question: If you encountered a left footprint with a cup mark inside it, would you look for an additional symbol or examine the immediate rock context first? #FootprintSign #LeftFootSign #SymbolAnalysis #RomanArchaeology #Archaeology
