To the guy who said this is capitalism, this is literally what capitalism was invented to combat. The idea that you can provide for yourself enough to be free of these restrictions is the actual philosophy at the very core of a capitalist system. Now socialism/communism? that's a system built around the leash, top to bottom. Think about it, the things you need are *literally provided for you* by the people in control, but you have no ability to ever provide more for yourself, and no ability to leave the system without losing your safety and resources. The modern American capitalist system is corrupt, this is what leads to your frustration. Capitalism, as an economic system, is the solution to this problem, not the cause.

Capitalism, consumerism, religion, hierarchy. These are the things. We can talk about personal shit, relationships, whatever. But none of those compare to the way we just accept the way society and governments function, as if we have no way to change it, as if we NEED someone or a small group of people in charge, telling us how to live our lives. We just accept that people are incapable of their own autonomy. You need a boss, or a Governor, or a President, or a god. But do you really? Does their providing of a false sense of security not resemble a leash? We act like we are free, especially in the USA, but are we really?
