@iraqibantz: Basra is a city whose entire heartbeat is shaped by its fierce, almost unbelievable love of fish. With the Shatt al-Arab, the marshes, and the Gulf feeding its culture for centuries, fish in Basra isn’t just food — it’s pride, identity, comfort, and obsession all at once. Basrawis choose it with reverence, grill it like a sacred ritual, and debate fish restaurants the way others debate politics. Weddings, gatherings, and even quiet evenings feel incomplete without the smell of masgouf drifting through the air. Even with modern challenges, Basra’s devotion to fish remains unshakeable. Fishermen still rise before dawn, markets still buzz with energy, and families still gather around plates that carry centuries of tradition. In every flame of the masgouf fire, Basra’s love lives on — intense, unapologetic, and utterly unmatched.
