As a veterinary nurse working an emergency medicine, I’ve never had anyone regret letting them go on a good day, but I’ve had plenty wish they didn’t wait as long as they did. You know him best know, you will know when it’s time. Sending you all the love 💛

I just lost my dog due to a splenic mass last week. I work in vet med. She had no signs until she didn’t eat her dinner one night, but ate her breakfast, took her into work with me in the morning, and she was gone a few hours later. X-rays looked fine, didn’t look like anything spread so we went ahead with surgery. She was in surgery less than 20 mins and my coworker came and got me, I went into the OR and the dr had blood all over her hands and said, it’s cancer, and it’s everywhere. She has 1-2 months to live. As I was trying to process that, a minute later another doctor came in saying she was bleeding out and they couldn’t stop it. I can’t stop reliving it. I wish I got the chance to let her go on a good day. I prayed to god for years to let her say be peaceful and at home but I guess he didn’t listen. She just had a dental done in July and bloodwork was perfect. There were zero signs. It was the most traumatic event in my life and I will never get over it. It’s even worse that I happened at my place of work, where I have to walk those hallways every day. See the same people. Sorry I’m venting. All to say, let him go on a good day. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I have always said “If one us has to suffer, it will be me” and I have had to make good on that promise 2 heartbreaking times. It is so painful. This is what you are doing. You are choosing to suffer instead of Rudder. Thinking of you ❤️

As a vet tech myself, I always respect those who respect their pets wellbeing over their own. We owe it to them to give them a beautiful life from start to finish. Even working in vet med, I’ve had to make calls on my own pet and sometimes wondered if I was too soon or too late. I’ve always been grateful when I see people coming in for their dogs last day and they tell me how they spent their last day with their best friend before we proceed. There’s often too many experiences when instead I’m looking at someone who’s begging for help to save their pet because they didn’t get to have their good last days. Both are hard but one carries the biggest regret. Regardless, neither are easy. You’ll know when it’s time, you just have to be ready to accept it❤️🩹

hey Maddy! I lost my previous dog to cancer where it was also in her spleen. We made the decision to euthanise her, because of a desire to protect her from passing away from it rupturing. It was so painful but now, a few years on, I am so thankful I made that choice. I remember as soon as it was done, feeling such gratitude that I had been able to protect her. All I ever wanted was for her to be happy and safe. Sending so much love to you and to Rudder. He is so lucky to have you and I'm sorry you have to face this.

I worked in vet med and can confidently say that a day, week, or even a month too early is better than a second to late. Bless you for letting him go with dignity when you make that decision. You’ve given him SO much. Rudder is so lucky to have such an incredible owner like you. Remember to take care of yourself too. Sending positive vibes!

As a vet tech it is so much easier to say good bye on a good day than it is on a bad day… You have given Rudder such an amazing life. He is so deeply loved ♥️♥️

We were told with our shepherd that it’s better to let her walk in herself then for us to have to carry her in. We lost her to a horrific nerve degeneration disease at 7 years old. I am so so sorry you’re having to go through this. 🥺

We made the decision to help our Rigby (also an ESS) go on a Wednesday but gave ourselves the weekend to say goodbye and spoil him. Unfortunately we had to make an emergency appt that weekend to send him over the bridge. I regret it every day that we didn’t give him peace sooner. I am so sorry you have to make this decision and I hope you know he is living a wonderful life, all because of you 💖

Our black lab was being treated for a disease that is supposed to be “curable” and she was so happy literally up until her last day. That day was super traumatic and I wish she didn’t have to go through that. It felt like we were exactly one day too late.

A criticalist I worked with in a veterinary ICU told me the easiest way to make that call is to list out all of the things you’re dog loves. If they can’t do 2-3 of the top things they used to love doing, it’s time. 💕 I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this.
