German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Europe’s freedom and security are directly at stake as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues. Speaking in Münster alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Merz said Moscow has still not shown willingness to come to the negotiating table. He said Germany, the Netherlands and their allies are assuming greater responsibility inside NATO while preserving the transatlantic character of the Alliance. Merz also thanked the soldiers serving in the German-Netherlands Corps and the personnel from 14 other contributing nations.
