@meandcharlee_talkin: #dutchapplepie #applepie #bakingrecipe #EasyRecipe Dutch Apple Pie with Brown Sugar Crumble Ingredients For the apple filling: 7 small apples or 10 large apples 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon lemon zest 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup granulated sugar 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste 2 tablespoons salted butter, melted For the crumble: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup salted butter, melted You’ll also need: 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust 2-3 tablespoons all-purpose flour Directions Preheat oven to 400°F. Peel and core the apples. Using a mandolin, slice the apples about 1/8-inch thick. Add the sliced apples to a large bowl with the lemon juice and lemon zest. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla and melted butter. Toss everything together really well, making sure all of the apple slices are coated. Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of flour evenly over the bottom of the unbaked pie crust. Add the apples to the pie crust, pressing them down slightly as you go. The apples will be piled high, but they will cook down as the pie bakes. For the crumble, add the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and salt to a bowl. Pour in the melted butter and mix until large, buttery crumbs form. Generously pile the crumble over the apples. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 20 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for 45-55 minutes, or until the apples are tender, the filling is bubbling around the edges and the crumble is golden brown. If the crumble starts getting too dark before the pie is finished, loosely tent the top with foil. Allow the pie to cool for at least 3 hours before slicing so the filling has time to set.

So I can put my cold glass pie pan in a hot oven? Or do you let it cool completely before baking?

Each October we make 12 dozen jars of apple butter using about 240 pounds of apples. We have two amazing peeler/corers. They are cast iron Reading Hardware Company Model Number 78. You can buy them on eBay occasionally. We previously tried at least 5 other types but the Reading is the gold standard. Using 2 peelers, we can core and peel 240 pounds of apples in under 2 hours.

I so would love to do a version of this in a cookie sheet type pan or maybe just a casserole dish. Would you suggest any modifications?
