Damn I get the point you’re trying to make, you’re right in saying we should look at things we do and I probably have let something happen without doing anything but for this level or cruelty surely those in the group chat or school admin had to be some type of self aware to see what happened and accepting it as the norm is diabolical imo

More Important than arguing about the past and what is done, is talking about the present and future and what we can do now going forward with what we learned.

This is one of the most informed speeches by far. Thank you for sharing this. Not to excuse bystanders, but we all know “how” those boys and girls got into the fraternities and sororities in the first place (if you're not familiar with their “test,” you should look it up). What are we expecting from them now? Suddenly disconnected from their culture in that group chat? People who would do that probably would reject the idea of joining them from the start, sadly. The real problem is perhaps a long-term, broader belief system that shaped collective behaviors and the perceived consequences of disobeying the norms.

I commit inactivity due to lack of resources. If I had resources, tbh I'd set the world on fire

If you’re the type of person who would speak up, you wouldn’t have been in the group chat to begin with.

Respectfully, you are overintellectualising here something that constitutes administrative misconduct. As someone who was a university employee (but in the UK), the university - as any university - has a formal duty of care towards all its students, particularly ones who flag distress (more so for undergrads). you can't compare what people wouldn't do generally in society versus an administration that has formal duty of care the second a student is formally enrolled.

After witnessing the devastation in Gaza and seeing how many people can justify, support, or remain indifferent to the killing of Palestinian children and civilians, something in my perspective has fundamentally changed. I have come to recognize that cruelty and a disturbing lack of empathy can exist among ordinary people around us. It has reached the point where I sometimes wonder whether some people could witness a woman being raped or a child being harmed in front of them and still look away simply because they do not identify with the victim. That realization has profoundly changed the way I see humanity.
