@professor_mearsheimer: 🇨🇳🇹🇼 Will China invade Taiwan in the next decade? Professor John Mearsheimer says probably not. He argues that a large-scale amphibious invasion would be extremely difficult and costly. But he identifies one major exception: if Taiwan formally declared independence, he believes Beijing could decide that war was unavoidable regardless of the potential cost. #USA #Taiwan #China #USChina #Geopolitics
Let Taiwan declare independence today and we see if china isn't ready

It’s not about their ability alone Prof, the mainlanders are not agreeable with attacking their own people unless independence is declared. Even authoritarian leaders have to take note.

how true is it that , taking control of Taiwan will finally help china to have a credible nuclear submarine response because they can now navigate to the Pacific ocean without passing japan or Philippines

It is not impossible. Just depends on the costs in terms of lives and economic sequences. For China, Taiwan is the reddest of red lines. Prof Meirsheimer greatly underestimates the costs that China is willing to pay should Taiwan threatens to breakaway.

note that Taiwan is already part of mainland China. China has options and it would be unwise to underrate the Chinese.

China cannot invade itself. No need for military or any other power. When the current ruler term end or he step aside the KMT assume power and join mainland as SAR. End of saga.

They won't need to do it militarily. It will one day be under complete Chinese control as a matter of attrition.

china will not invade Taiwan not because they don't habe military capability but because military option is the last option as China is not warmongers like the US or EU and also China will not fight the war as what the west predicted but they have have much smarter options with much less of cost and casualties. 😂
