@astrokirsten: Go look up at Saturn! 🪐 The ringed planet is about to reach opposition on 4 October, making this the best time of the year to spot Saturn in the night sky. At opposition, Saturn is directly opposite the Sun from our perspective, which means it rises around sunset and stays visible throughout the night. It will be highest in the sky around the middle of the night, making that a great time to look. Saturn is also near its closest approach to Earth for the year, so it will appear particularly bright and prominent. And with Saturn's current tilt, its rings should look especially spectacular through a telescope. Want to know exactly where to look from your location? Stellarium is one of my favourite tools for exploring the night sky and planning your stargazing. Grab a telescope or binoculars if you have them, head outside and look up! 🔭✨ Pre-order my book LOST IN SPACE via the link in my bio ✨ #Saturn #Astronomy #Space #SolarSystem #SpaceFacts

I took this the other day and although I don't think my camera has enough resolution to make out Saturn, I will give it my best. How awesome is it to be alive at a time where a regular person can have equipment to see things like this?

The real explanation is often stranger than the simplified version. That’s exactly the kind of science we explore at Reality Unfolded research-backed stories for people who like going one layer deeper.
