photographer here. go peeping when the sky is low in the sky (early morning /late afternoon) and the warm light passing through the leaves will make the colors glow and pop.

Oh man, people need to point this out about the bullshit pictures they give us for the northern lights or the aurora borealis

Todd I had a picture from a film camera back in 98ish. I would give anything if you could see the backyard trees in this lost photo. It was beautiful.

Yeah, modern smartphone cameras are now also using Ai to automatically 'enhance' your images and it's basically just oversaturating/sharpening & throwing an HDR filter on it. All that being said, some years there are definitely more vivid colors than others, and here in western NC, it's looking like we're gonna have a pretty drab Autumn :/

This is true but also cameras pick up colors particularly in low light better than our own eyes. All phones though tend to pump up photos with how bright they are and they add a base layer of "edits" in their basic profile as well. There are incredibly vibrant colors though this year at around Maine, probably the most vibrant I've seen in a while so it really is popping right now. [Big LOL] Golden hour really is ideal too for both seeing and photographing.

I lived in Missouri when I was a teen and I’m originally from Southwest Louisiana. I thought the foliage looked amazing and vibrant in Missouri. Now I’m from a place where we don’t get foliage really. So maybe I was romanticize 😂

Fun fact. The last time we had a drop dead gorgeous autumn on Nantucket was 1994. Now everything just sort of wilts to brown.

I’ve lived in New England my whole life and I know I’ve never seen a deep fuchsia/purple forest of trees in person before. They started appearing with Photoshop and now I guess the phone cameras over-saturate? I prefer the natural colors.
