@nbcconnecticut: Connecticut renters say rising housing costs are forcing some people to make difficult choices between paying rent and covering everyday necessities. At an event with state lawmakers, renters called for action and raised ideas including renter tax credits and a cap on rent. Zillow data cited in the reporting shows the average rent for apartments and condos in Connecticut is now just over $1,800 a month, up $155 from last year. #connecticut #housing #housingcrisis #ctrentals #renting

My studio apartment in Naugatuck went up $1,500 to $1,600. My landlady said it was because everything else went up. I couldn’t go grocery shopping last week because I had to pay rent.

My landlord is in New York, never even met the lady. We need to also make sure CT apartments need to be managed by people who LIVE IN CT

All the new apartments being built are luxury and that’s not what we need! We need regular, affordable houses.

The prices are absurd, anyone who is working less than a full time job can’t afford anything. We’re expected to have 4x the income we make. I get it there are bad renters but come on We are all struggling. CT is no longer for the people, it’s turning into the next New York. Let’s not get started on EVERSOURCE!

CT should be ashamed! Old out dated apartments, no rent cap. The new units cost $3000,$4000, it’s ridiculous!

Surely they are pushing hard for lower property taxes then to make it possible to lower the rents?

The housing issues in CT are becoming increasingly serious. I am facing homelessness because I had a stroke and couldn’t get any financial assistance to help pay my rent and bills while appealing disability. I’ve called 211 and was referred to other agencies that could not assist my needs and have been told by NOW that in order to help me I need an income. I’m trying to heal but I trying to find help because I don’t have any outside support. How can I get assistance? If someone knows please advise.
