@dotties.journal: I’ve been super into poster/editorial design lately and Olivia’s new album ofcourseee so I had to combine. I feel like they get better as the vid goes so stick around :p #oliviarodrigo #or3 #fyp #songwriter
Olivia's writing may be straightforward at most but the thing that differentiates her from her bully (we all know who she is) is the emotions she tries to convey. You can really hear the emotions in her voice when she sings that's why her songs are so relatable and is almost a visceral feeling.

Her songs also don’t TRY too hard to be relatable. She uses her voice to convey emotions where words might not, and her vocal range gives her so much power in that regard. She knows how to make a song relatable not from trying to be an English teacher but actually getting the emotion across to give words more power.

Rather than stating the emotion, she’s able to translates the emotion into something you can imagine yourself. And she doesn’t make it too poetic. The image is still extremely easy to understand. It feels raw without being too literal.

I think her writing also makes it free enough for people to interpret it their own various ways yet its still very specific idk if it makes sense but like the fluidity of possible meanings are still within a very specific feeling that the song tries to express, so it feels so personal?

Even at twice her age I find Rodrigo's lyrics so relatable, so mature and well-considered.

And I think you can feel her authenticity through her songs. It’s not generic, she is at one with her experience and feelings and doesn’t hide from them in her so gs

unlike olivia, i feel like some singers use “big words” to distract from the fact they have nothing to say, and too many people think vocabulary and an overuse of metaphors is good songwriting, when it’s not

also her songs are so unique and honest like ballad of a homeschooled girl, or jealousy jealosy.. theyre not the typical songs but actually are about real issues that our generation go through. or Purple and happier i had never heard songs that portrayed love in that way.. all of her songs are unique

she has such an emotive way of singing that it's hard to imagine other people delivering her songs the way she does. the way she expresses her feelings through her music feels very much her.

One lyric of hers that really hits me surprisingly hard every time despite not being particularly unique is “I’m a penny in a fountain, waiting on my luck to change”. Simple can be powerful in the right context.

even if the words are "simple", she is straight forward and honest about herself. she doesn't feel obligated to prove herself to us, and just shares what's in her mind. this is why her writing feels fresh, we interpret the lyrics how we understand and she sings it like how we feel

Agreed ♥️I also want to add that she understands complex emotions and puts them into words SO WELL (e.g, the cure, purple) like most of us have felt this at one point but never verbalized it in the way she does. Another person in mind who writes like this is Lizzy McAlpine. Love them both!
