@ranchograndeojai: On this day, Albert discovered that breakfast could be improved by having someone massage him while he ate it. Apparently, standing in front of a tractor bucket full of hay was a little too demanding on its own. He needed both of my hands working through his fluffy coat while he concentrated on chewing. I’m not sure when we became an all-inclusive resort, but he seems very happy with his package. That soft camel hair is impossible to resist. I started with a little rub beside his hump, and before long I was working with both hands like I was trying to get a stain out of a very expensive carpet. Albert barely looked up. Just kept eating with the quiet confidence of someone who had booked the full hour. Of course, a massage is important when you carry the kind of stress Albert carries. Will there be more hay after this hay? Where is everybody? Could someone be eating an apple without him? These are serious concerns, and apparently he stores all that tension right next to his hump. I used to think retirement would mean having more time to relax. It turns out I meant having more time to help a camel relax. But with my hands buried in that soft fluff and Albert happily chewing away beside me, I wasn’t exactly suffering either. Just don’t tell him I enjoy it.
