My friend served a pregnant lady alcohol once and I was very confused. She gave her the drink and smiled. I said to my coworker “she shouldn’t have that, that is illegal “ I was informed that she has found out her baby passed and was scheduled to have it removed soon. One of our daughters was a bartender and said (state of Alabama) you have to serve even pregnant women although the bartender or server might definitely disagree

I once got a 25 cent tip because I told two ladies, at noon, that bar was closed because one was pregnant and the other had just given birth plus they had a toddler with them. They each had a Hurricane. That drink has as much and maybe more alcohol than a Long Island Ice-T. They were furious. I told my manager she can fire me or take the table because I want to be sure the two children with them and the one still being made for home safe. My manager said it was up to my discretion. They left me a quarter but at least I tried to be sure the kids were safe.

I’ve fortunately never been put in this situation but according to both Florida and Ohio laws it’s discrimination to not serve a pregnant person (which is crazy to me)

I’ve never understood women who drink while pregnant, I turned 21 while I was 5 months pregnant and wouldn’t even drink a glass of wine that my mom ordered me. I happily waited and now enjoy a cold beer with my healthy baby girl in my arms ❤️

I ran into the same situation years ago minus the fighting lol. I wasnt sure what to do but my manager explained that it was actually illegal/discriminatory to deny her based solely on her being pregnant. The warning on alcohol and cigarettes that say pregnant women should avoid use is just that, a warning, a glorified recommendation. Not law.

Just serve whoever has an id! You never know. I knew a lady whose baby had died in her stomach and she just wanted a drink after her baby was scooped out of her ! She still looked pregnant and was refused. She sued tf out of the establishment

My FIL was/is a doctor. He retired from Uniformed Service (Naval Officer per Public Health), and he can tell you stories about alcohol and drug addicted infants. It’s so sad. 😞

Back in the late 90’s I refused to serve a pregnant lady. Boy she caused a stir but in TN we had the right to refuse service to anyone.

when I was a bartender, we had an absolutely WONDERFUL regular DJ who basically quit DJ-ing because she was pregnant...but she still loved nights out and singing karaoke. (she was absolutely amazing) so she would come out every Friday night, and she would have a HALF a glass of wine (which her doctor gave her a note for because of her blood pressure), and she drank water the rest of the night while she entertained the whole bar for up to 2hrs..i had another regular patron threaten to beat her in the parking lot, AND to beat me as well for serving her. then just a few yrs later this same threatening patron was at the local bars every night, wasted, gaining weight in her middle, denying a pregnancy even though she was a big "drunk hugger" and everyone could tell she was pregnant, then when she went into labor, called people saying she had an emergency gall bladder removal while being housed in maternity, and one of my friends ended up with a surprise baby...with severe fetal alcohol syndrome. she's a senior now and doing well, but the original DJs kid went on to be an amazing person, college degree, and amazing woman!

I went to eat with a bunch of friends years ago and I had on leggings and a flowy top. Everyone at the table ordered an alcohol drink and almost everyone had been brought their drink except for me. The server came and squatted down next to me and told me she couldn’t give me a drink and I asked why. She said because I was pregnant. [Innocent] I wasn’t a big gal at the time so I was a little taken aback by the comment. To lighten the moment I told her I wasn’t pregnant but instead just needed to lose some weight. The entire table found the whole encounter hysterical as did I but that gal was awkward with us the whole time we were there. Oh, and I got my drink. [Tears of joy]
