Brian :
Well here is the thing mage is the catch all and that makes sense I like to think because a lot of magic might visibly look similar or multiple of these types of magic users can share spells or similar spells so in my head this catch all works for people who don’t know the source of the magic a particular user is using.

Off-topic, but I'm curious. Is your avatar inspired by "Truth" from Full Metal Alchemist?

Personally, my classification is varied, because magic in my fantasy is a power that exist purely to nurture the world, and it can be used for both good and bad, as such magic practice can expand to many types, but the concept is one: "you are what you practice" and magic MUST BE TAUGHT! there are no "Naturally Talented" people. Hence, my classification is: 1/ Elementalist: this class is purely for those who use natural element like fire, ice, water, earth, air, lightning, crystals...etc. This class is mainly practiced by those who don't have much magic in them, or those who are mainly magic scholars. 2/ Witch: this class is for both men and women, and both are called "witch", this class tackles drak magic, demonology, summons, hexes, curses jinxes, poison, and potions. this class requires a good amount of natural aura to be able to tame and subdue dark forces, and it's rather hard to master. 3/ Druid: this class includes people who lean more towards medicinal magic, it needs mastery in medicine, herbology, agriculture and masonry, this class excels in curses reversal and jinxes and hexes dismantlement. This class is also difficult because it requires a lot and a lot of knowledge. 4/ Alchemy: this class is by far the most difficult academically, because it demands excellence in Physics, Chemistry, Anatomy, biology, herbology and mathematics, because in this class matter is manipulated and shifted via the art of "Transmutation" it's when you shift the physical condition of things to their opposite, or create something from something else (ex: shifting a rock to diamond, turning flesh to wood, creating water from sand). 5/ Necromicon: by far the drakest form of magic, it tackles the deadliest and most dangerous form of magic, into one school! This class requires bravery to the point of insanity because it tackles necromancy, blood magic, demonology, spirit manipulation, and drak matter extraction, and every form of sacrifices. This class is banned because of its danger and terrible consequences if something fails, and those who practice it are executed on the spot, UNLESS there are powerful enough to escape and disappear. There's still more, but let's stop here.
