I am a matriarchist when I speak about matriarchy, I am speaking about women being centred. Women having authority over their lives, their bodies, their wealth, their homes, their spirituality, their health and their future. Matriarchy and feminism are not the same thing!!! Feminism has many schools of thought, but at its core, it has historically addressed women’s rights, gender inequality and the structures affecting women. Matriarchy speaks more directly to where women sit within power, leadership, family, community and social organisation and no, one does not have to cancel the other. For me, being a matriarchist does not mean teaching women to hate men. Over here, our focus is women. I want women to love themselves deeply, I want women to uphold themselves instead of constantly shrinking themselves for acceptance, I want women to make money, own assets, build businesses and understand financial independence, I want women to take their health seriously, I want women to explore their spirituality and build a relationship with themselves beyond religion, relationships and social expectations, I want women to travel. Learn. Experience life. Form friendships. Build community. Take up space. Rest. Create. Lead, and I want women to know who they are when nobody is choosing them, validating them or giving them permission. So yes, feminism exists And over here? We are matriarchists.
