Five stones were found with the body. They were in a fishing net, along with a 39-year-old man whose hands had been taped together. Investigators believe the stones were there to keep him from surfacing in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, near Parit Raja in Batu Pahat. Members of the public saw him floating at about 12.30pm on Monday, 3 August 2026, and alerted the authorities. His family identified him from his clothing and personal belongings. He was Low Kai Xian, a businessman based in Johor Bahru, from Iskandar Puteri. His wife had reported him missing on 29 July. His family later found his vehicle in Johor Bahru. Police said the early findings point to strangulation with a rope. They believe he was then put in a vehicle, his hands were taped, and his body was wrapped in the net. Police described this as their initial investigation, not a court finding. The arrests began the day the body was found. A joint team from the Johor and Batu Pahat criminal investigation departments arrested three local men, aged 26 to 40, in Batu Pahat on 3 August. At about 7.45pm the next day, two more local men, aged 33 and 34, were arrested in Kluang. Reports described them as the main suspects. That made five. Police believe the motive was linked to a debt. On 9 August, at about 6.30pm, police seized a pistol from a house in the Yong Peng area. Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said it followed information from one of the suspects. The suspects were first remanded for seven days, then for another week. On 13 August, the investigation papers went to the Johor state prosecution director's office. On 16 August, the police chief announced that four suspects would be charged with murder and the fifth would be released to become a prosecution witness. The next day, 17 August, four men appeared at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court. The charge was murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty, or a long prison term with whipping. It covers the period between 2.35pm on 29 July and 12.30pm on 3 August. The charge places the killing in front of the Sinhai Sdn Bhd restaurant on Jalan Emas Putih 2, Taman Sri Skudai, in Johor Bahru, and at Sungai Tanjung Sembrong. The end of that window is the same time the body was found. No plea was recorded, because murder cases are heard in the High Court. Lawyers for the victim's family attended for a watching brief. The four are accused, not convicted, and none of the evidence has been tested in court. The case returns to court on 14 October. That is when the prosecution is expected to submit the autopsy report, DNA reports, CCTV footage and phone forensics. #creatorsearchinsights #crimefiction #strange #dark #mystery
