In 247°F (2011), Jenna is still traumatized by the car accident that killed her boyfriend, so she joins her friend Renee, Renee’s boyfriend Michael, and Michael’s friend Ian for a weekend at Ian’s uncle’s remote lakeside cabin, where they drink, relax and eventually use the sauna; Jenna, Renee and Michael are inside when Ian leaves them briefly, but the sauna door becomes blocked from the outside, leaving the three unable to escape as the temperature keeps rising. At first they assume Ian is playing a prank, but panic sets in as nobody responds, their phones are outside, and the reinforced door and window resist their attempts to break through. The extreme heat quickly causes dehydration, burns, confusion and increasingly irrational decisions, while Jenna’s claustrophobia and memories of her earlier accident make things worse. They try smashing the window and damaging the sauna structure and controls, but their desperate efforts only worsen the situation, with the temperature approaching the deadly 247°F mark. Renee deteriorates badly and eventually dies from the heat, while Jenna and Michael become barely conscious and appear destined to die as well. Ian eventually returns, discovers what has happened and manages to open the sauna, allowing Jenna and Michael to be rescued. The final revelation is that there was no murderer or elaborate trap: the door had accidentally been obstructed from outside, and a simple mishap became lethal because nobody was around to notice, while the trapped group’s panic and failed escape attempts made an already dangerous situation far worse.
