Building the app is only part of the job. Someone still has to buy it. OpenAI's Dev Day marketplace announcement matters because it puts another buying route in front of software companies. Here are three things to pay attention to. 1. A budget already exists. Sam Altman says enterprise customers can use part of their existing OpenAI commitment to buy partner products. That could give a vendor a route into a budget the customer already has, instead of starting every purchase conversation from scratch. 2. The product still needs to solve a problem. A marketplace gives you somewhere to sell. The clip does not promise traffic, sales or automatic acceptance. You still need a useful product and a clear reason for someone to choose it. 3. Distribution belongs in the build plan. Before spending weeks adding features, work out who needs the product and how they can buy it. A working app without a buying route can sit there while the bills keep coming. OpenAI says it launched with more than 30 partners.
