People don’t understand its not about Christa Pike. Christa Pike is the worst TN has to offer but we can not apply the law selectively to some people and not others. Thats not the intention of the criminal justice system. Christa deserves her punishment but we can’t circumvent the constitution because we don’t like her crime. What they did to her was textbook cruel and unusual punishment.

This is the exact reason I stopped supporting the death penalty. The rate of wrongful convictions is far too high to be willing to take someone’s life.

I've been clean and sober for over 20 years now, but during my addiction I spent several months in jail. By the end of the road, my family had tried everything else, so they started having me arrested in hopes I'd finally get clean. Looking back, that change in how they dealt with me was probably the single biggest thing that saved my life, because every stint behind bars forced me into sobriety long enough for my head to clear. Before I ever spent a night in jail, I had no idea how miserable it truly is to lose your freedom. You're confined to a concrete cell. You never feel clean. You can never let your guard down, not even for a minute. It's a miserable existence, and that's exactly why I believe a lifetime behind bars is a far harsher punishment than death. A life sentence also leaves the door open for anyone who was wrongly convicted to one day walk free and reclaim their life. There's no telling how many innocent people this country has already sentenced to death. The death penalty slams that door shut on the wrongly convicted, and for the true monsters who deserve the harshest punishment, it's an easy way out. It's long past time we abolish the death penalty.

Theres been too many ppl exonerated for heinous crime just in my lifetime for me to b cool with executing ppl. Execution is barbaric & archaic.

Because it's one of my favorite movies, I do have to make a correction. Vinny is the one who first noticed the tire marks and knew that the Buick skylark couldn't make those marks. That's why he put her on the stand. She had no idea when she was going on that stand why she was up there, or what she was about to testify to. He led her to that. And they thought he was crazy until she explained why thr defense was wrong. Vinnie did in fact know that those marks couldn't be made by a Buick Skyler before Mona Lisa saw it.

Totally agree with this argument (and love that movie), and I’ve also always struggled with the idea of the executioner. What is “pulling the trigger” doing to their “soul” (mental health, whatever you wanna call it)?

You honestly blow my mind every time. Well done Brandis! The way you are able to break down the law in a way common people can understand is masterful. You should teach a law class!

I can honestly say I’ve never thought of it this way. I’ve always supported DP and sometimes been so emotional about a case even and eye for eye!(completely out of emotion), but DP yes always. But now after listening to this 3 times you’ve changed my view completely!
