![Fire needs heat, fuel, and oxygen to survive. Sound waves (especially low-frequency ones) can disrupt that balance. By generating strong, directed pulses of low-frequency sound (~30-60 Hz), the speaker pushes oxygen away from the flame’s base. No oxygen, no combustion. The prototype was built using off-the-shelf audio equipment and successfully extinguished small open flames, like alcohol fires, without chemicals or residues. This innovation came from Seth Robertson and Viet Tran, engineering students at George Mason University. Their senior design project turned into a viral success, combining principles of acoustics, fluid dynamics, and combustion physics. Proving that creativity + science can lead to real-world breakthroughs. A sound-based fire extinguisher has huge potential: ✅️ Non-toxic and leaves no residue, ideal for electronics, kitchens, and sensitive environments. 🚁 Could be used in autonomous drones to suppress fires remotely. 🧯 Demonstrates a new frontier in non-invasive firefighting tech. It’s still in early development, but it’s a bold step toward clean, efficient fire suppression, powered by physics. --- 💡 Learn More: Watch Two Students Extinguish Fire Using Sound - TIMES (https://time.com/3760361/students-extinguish-fire-with-sound/) [Sources] (🎞 George Mason University) (✍️ Description) 1.
