@islaminpast: In 984 CE, the Muslim mathematician and physicist In Sahl was working in Baghdad on mirrors, lenses, and the behavior of light. In his treatise on burning mirrors and lenses, he described the mathematical relationship governing how light changes direction when passing between different materials, a relationship equivalent to what we now call the law of refraction. Centuries later, Dutch mathematician Willebrord Snell independently rediscovered the same relationship, and it became known as Snell's Law.
