@lhotshampavoice: The Exodous of Hope: Can Bhutan Survived Without Its Brightest? A single, devastating question now hangs over Bhutan: What happens to a nation when its young, educated, and skilled citizens abandon it? Bhutan is bleeding its future. According to the World Bank, a staggering 53% of Bhutanese migrants hold university degrees, compared to just 7% of the general working-age population. Australia has become the primary destination for this massive brain drain. This is not just a statistical shift; it is a national emergency. While there is dignity in all honest work abroad, the painful truth is that Bhutan is failing to retain the very minds it poured its resources into educating. Despite maintaining the outward structure of a constitutional monarchy with competitive elections, independent assessments reveal systemic fractures: deep challenges persist around political participation, minority rights, and freedom of expression. A nation cannot survive on beautiful mountains and a marketed image of peace alone. It demands opportunity, accountability, and real civic participation. If citizens do not have the confidence to build a life at home, the foundation of the country crumbles. The real, urgent national debate must be this: How will Bhutan forge a society where the next generation chooses to stay? Survival depends on creating genuine opportunity, human dignity, and a powerful voice for its youth not out of obligation, but because they believe in their country's future. #Bhutan #BhutanYouth #Migration #Democracy #FutureOfBhutan
