@masterbuilder91: #fyp #History #arab #africa Ibn ʿUmar greeted a man THREE times… and the man couldn't answer. Why? 👀 Mecca, c. 70 AH / 690 CE. ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar walks up to a Zanjī man and gives him salām. Once. Twice. Three times. Nothing. Then someone tells him: إِنَّمَا هُوَ طِمْطِمَانِيٌّ "He's only a ṭimṭimānī", a heavy non-Arabic speaker, just brought in by ship. Think about that. If this man looked like an obvious foreigner, why would Ibn ʿUmar keep greeting him in Arabic, expecting an answer? You don't walk up to someone who clearly isn't from your people and keep talking like he understands you. Where are the reports of Ibn ʿUmar walking up to Romans and Byzantines, greeting them over and over, confused when they don't reply? This was before the African Muslim kingdoms of Ghana and Mali. There was no reason to expect a newly arrived African to speak Arabic. Unless he looked exactly like the Arabs around him. The only thing that separated them was the TONGUE. Not the face. 📜 al-Bayhaqī, Shuʿab al-Īmān, no. 8791

Toast :
It was to do with the language. Whoever Masters the Arabic language is considered an Arab regardless of skin colour.

@jxrdankingg: The authentic hadith descriptions don’t describe the Prophet ﷺ as black. Sahih Muslim describes him as “white” (أبيض), while Sahih al-Bukhari describes his complexion as rosy/reddish and says he was neither extremely white nor dark. So the classical descriptions point to a light/rosy complexion, not a black complexion.
