@beybamsii: 2 OCTOBER — THE DAY JERUSALEM RETURNED On 2 October 1187, Salahuddin Yusuf ibn Ayyub — known to the West as Saladin — entered Jerusalem after the city surrendered to his forces, bringing the city back under Muslim rule after nearly nine decades of Crusader control. But the story is bigger than a military victory. Jerusalem was not just another city. It was Al-Quds — a sacred land connected to the history of the Prophets and home to Masjid Al-Aqsa, one of the most sacred places in Islam. Years of conflict had led to this moment. After defeating the Crusader army at Hattin in July 1187, Salahuddin’s forces reclaimed territory across the region before reaching Jerusalem. And when the city finally surrendered, Salahuddin chose a different path from the massacre that had accompanied the Crusaders’ capture of Jerusalem in 1099. The city’s inhabitants were allowed to secure their freedom through ransom rather than facing the mass slaughter that had occurred during the First Crusade. 2 October 1187. A date remembered in the history of Al-Quds. A reminder of Salahuddin. A reminder of the significance of Masjid Al-Aqsa. And a reminder that history is not just something we read — it is something we remember. May Allah protect Al-Aqsa and those who worship within it. Ameen. 🤲🏻 #AlAqsa #SalahuddinAyyubi #Jerusalem #IslamicHistory #beybamsii
