@helenaodinson: October 1, 2026 | Crete, Greece 🇬🇷 Extremely heavy rains struck Crete, causing severe flooding, destruction, and travel disruptions. One person died after a 79-year-old shepherd was swept away by floodwaters in the Rethymno region. The situation was particularly critical in Milopotamos, where rivers and streams overflowed their banks, roads turned into raging torrents, and homes and businesses were flooded. Two people trapped in a car on the Dioskourio bridge were rescued by firefighters. In Heraklion, the Giofyros River also burst its banks, flooding homes and shops. In Gournes, swift currents washed away cars, sending several into the sea.

No one should go and expect a lovely holiday at this time of year is Greece or Spain or - they are best may - aughust and some parts of September. After that it is only 18 degrees and raining. So In my opinion countries in south west (warm now and all the way through Xmas) turkey, Egypt, Cyprus or then long haul!
