@jayhoovy: There's this tension we Immigrants have: honoring what's helped us survive while shedding the pain it's caused. We've endured without complaint because complaining was never an option. But somewhere along the way, that ability to eat sh*t became too much of our identity. We stopped asking if we were okay and just asked if we were still moving, confusing rest with weakness and our ability to endure with a badge of honor. My hope is that anyone with an Immigrant background can watch this video and feel a little more seen... I'm wishing you all the best, and I hope you'll join me on this journey of finding peace! 吃苦 is an idea mirrored in many cultures, similar to “suffering” in the context of Christianity. Whereas in fact the Sanskrit origin of 苦 is just any misalignment between “the wheel” and “the way”. The way is not to endure the misalignment but to let go, and to embrace change.

in Vietnamese it's called Chịu Khổ. Which because of this video, I learned the root of that word.

吃苦(chi ku) is followed by 耐劳 (nai lao)to endure labor. To bear the worst and keep on working builds character and is often viewed as the one of the most important characteristics of Chinese culture.

The struggle can show up in the body. CranioSacral therapy can release the over-bitter to make space for the sweet.

There is sweetness in the bitterness you endure so long as you know who is for. Thank you for sharing John

It’s a nostalgic food for me. My parents and grandparents were always eating bitter foods and I didn’t like it. 😁
