Ese número no es una calificación de seguridad: dice de qué plástico está hecho. Y eso importa, porque algunos plásticos sueltan sustancias a la comida, sobre todo con el calor. LOS QUE NUNCA TIENEN QUE IR AL CALOR: Número 3, PVC. Está en algunos plásticos para envolver y en empaques. Puede llevar ftalatos, sustancias que lo hacen flexible y que alteran las hormonas. Con el calor, se pasan más a la comida. Número 6, poliestireno: el unicel. El vaso del café, el del atole, el caldito para llevar. Suelta estireno, que la agencia contra el cáncer de la Organización Mundial de la Salud considera probablemente cancerígeno. Con lo caliente y lo grasoso, suelta más. Número 7, otros plásticos. No todos son peligrosos, pero aquí entra el policarbonato, que puede llevar bisfenol A, una sustancia que imita a las hormonas. Europa ya la prohibió en todo lo que toca alimentos. Algunos garrafones de agua son de este plástico: no los dejes al sol. LOS MÁS SEGUROS: Número 1, PET. Botellas de agua y de refresco.
