Doesn’t matter. That’s what the whole movie is saying. The whole question is an illusion. It’s the illusion of choice when in reality you don’t have one. The city mouse has dangers like cats and humans sure. The country mouse has dangers like foxes. You’re never safe. You just have the illusion of safety being the country mouse.

Aki has been both the country mouse and city mouse and he refuses to answer the question because hes experienced danger in both the city and country, neither mouse’s safety is guaranteed

Monarch butterflys are poisonous to their prey. The spider having the monarch butterfly in its web was such amazing symbolism. Reze was poisoning herself with subconscious feelings for denji while in the pool 🙏

The allegory was both mouses was driven by desire rather than conviction. The country mouse wanted to escape reality while the city mouse chased comfort. Both lead to a person demise because you simply follow the most "secure" route instead of actually facing their problems they turn into cowards so the choice is neither. The choice is fully embrace yourself without being contained by fear or futilities

country mouse for sure. it sounds stupid, but if I could, I’d just want to live a quiet life with my partner, have a little bakery at home, go to the market together for fresh ingredients, and make whatever we feel like that day. Seeing the same familiar faces come in, getting to know our customers, having a peaceful little life and ending each day knowing we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be. That’s honestly all I’d need to be happy.
