I think Carney got outmaneuvered. Look at the sequence of events. U.S. tariffs changed the economics of manufacturing in Canada. Stellantis then moved planned Jeep Compass production from Brampton to Illinois and is now considering selling the Brampton plant. Cleveland-Cliffs is cutting Stelco operations in Hamilton while citing tariff-related market disruption. Canada says these companies still have binding commitments, and that may ultimately be decided through enforcement or litigation. But here’s my question: did Canada’s tariff response strengthen its position, or did the escalating trade war give these companies a stronger economic argument for moving production and investment south? That’s the part worth watching.

no deal is better than a bad deal. the US needs Canadian resources more than we need their market. The market can be replaced or created internally.but there won't be any coming back if we agree to be a vassal state. the next few yrs will be tough, but we'll get through, meanwhile the US has much bigger chances of collapsing than Canada does.
