@i.a.n.network: Besson Street police clerk in custody after $100,000 allegedly snatched; told no one she was going to the Treasury. A police clerk assigned to the Besson Street Police Station is in custody after she was allegedly robbed of a bag containing $100,000 in cash, representing fees collected at the station and intended for deposit at the Treasury. The alleged incident occurred on Thursday, October 1, 2026, along Independence Square, Port of Spain. According to information received, the clerk left the Besson Street Police Station on foot carrying the cash and made her way to the Treasury. Police escorts are reportedly usually available to accompany the clerk to and from the Treasury, but on this occasion, she allegedly left the station alone without informing anyone that she was taking the cash to the Treasury. The clerk reportedly entered the Treasury but later left without making the deposit. Sources say she told investigators that the line was too long, so she decided to leave with the cash and return another day. While walking east along Independence Square, near FCB Bank, the clerk reportedly claimed that a man approached her, snatched the bag containing the cash, and walked away. However, CCTV footage reportedly showed the man walking ahead of the clerk, while she appeared to be walking hurriedly behind him. At one point, the footage allegedly showed the clerk making contact with the hooded man, who appeared to smile before continuing to walk out of camera view. The clerk was subsequently arrested and detained by investigators in connection with the incident. Investigations are continuing.— Story by I.A.N News #newstoday #trending #like #followus #fyp #iannews #iannetwork #worldnews #trinidadandtobago #caribbean #regional #international #instagram #tiktok ~C.S
