This is how it started. And I asked occasionally if anything was bothering them. I communicated that I felt it had something to do with me, but I left it at that & gave space. This was in her late 20s. We were always very close. But it just continued to get weirder & weirder & more distant. She became short & passive aggressive. Her body language around me was different. I could go on, but one day, we me at a park & my goal was to listen only. She brought up things from the past (much I didn’t even remember, much where my memory disagreed with hers) like getting grounded for lying about where she was with some guy at 12 years old or being overstressed on a holiday I was hosting. Just weird, random stuff that really didn’t explain the path she took. It continued to in that direction (counseling was unsuccessful). I noticed a few yrs later that she started using the same narratives & buzzwords from the estrangement side of social media. We broke apart. Tried to reunite, but it didn’t matter what I did. Her mind was made up. It’s been 10 years now . So, I think there are a lot of parents on here that tried your advice & still might’ve experienced the same story as mine.
