@curtisquow: A giant $130 million shopping center is coming to Bay Ridge—and it's bringing the neighborhood's first-ever national grocery store. It's replacing the old Century 21 department store on 86th Street, which has been sitting completely empty since they went out of business back in December 2020. The new 2-story development is called Century Marketplace, spanning 120,000 square feet—which is about the size of 2 football fields. Burlington already signed a lease for over 44,000 square feet. And that new grocer is taking another 16,000 square feet. The developers say it'll be the first national grocery chain serving this immediate part of Southwest Brooklyn. But here's what's interesting. No one actually knows which grocery chain is coming. The developers are keeping the name secret, only saying it's a major specialty brand. They haven't announced an official opening date yet, but after 5 years vacant, this block is finally coming back.
