2.0 TDi EA288 LOSING COOLANT! Checking the Pump & Replacing the Timing Belt. • A complete EA288 repair from diagnosis to final assembly! • Today we’re working on a Volkswagen Crafter 2.0 TDI EA288 with a gradual coolant loss problem. The coolant level kept dropping and the warning appeared on the dashboard. • One of the first things to check on this engine is the coolant pump located inside the timing belt drive. If the pump starts leaking through its drain hole, even small traces of coolant around the timing belt cover can point us in the right direction. • Another possible source is the EGR cooler, so proper diagnosis is important before replacing any parts. • After identifying the problem, we remove the complete timing belt drive and replace the coolant pump, three rollers and the timing belt. • The video also shows the correct procedure for setting the timing, locking the camshaft and high-pressure fuel pump, installing the belt and correctly tensioning it. • The tensioning procedure is particularly important on the EA288.
