my god the parallel to Wuthering Heights is driving me crazy!! Jeongyo as Heathcliff makes so much sense! similarly, he is demoted to a lower class (in the books this is a direct impact of Heathcliff's race, being a dark-skinned man, but with Jeongyo that portion is obviously not prevelent) and because of the horrible treatment he suffered, Jeongyo, like Heathcliff, becomes the very thing he despised; cruel, thirsty for revenge, not caring who he has to push down to get it against those who wronged him. Like Catherine, Pio goes against the norms expected of him despite trying to live up to his social status, similarly to how Catherine attemtped to adhere to her social standing as a woman by marrying a respectable man in Edgar Linton. However, what the two couples have in common is not only their love, but their obsession, an obsession that melds them into one being to the point of destroying themselves. Like Catherine and Heathcliff, the boys find a freedom from society within one another, and while those aorund them impacted what they became, they still are trying desperately to hold onto one another even though they are both harrowed by sorrow and anger
