These conversations really are just a reflection of just how deeply patriarchal conditioning is ingrained in society. Masculinity is treated as superior, while femininity is devalued. As a result, any femininity in a man, regardless of his sexuality, can lead him to be viewed as less of a man, particularly if he's gay. A woman is absolutely entitled to prefer masculine men, but that preference can still be influenced by patriarchal conditioning that teaches her masculinity is what she should desire. We see this same conditioning within the gay community, where feminine men are often looked down upon by other gay men, and seen as undesirable while masculine men are the most sought after.
