In the late 18th century a guy named John Harrison invented the marine chronometer, which allowed for accurate mapping of coastlines. They were commercially manufacturing globes with land masses that very closely match satellite images of today. Rand McNally in the United States had an amazingly accurate globe. While the image in 27 closely matches the 97 image, considering the number of images created of the earth, it was an inevitability that two would match the same perspective. but it was a known globe for thousands of years and accurate globes existed way prior to Hollywood creating that image (which btw was a picture of a physical globe)
